Over the course of the last week, you'll have likely noticed the buzz and excitement that's been building all around Metro Manila -- if you've been around awhile, you know what time of the year it is. If you're new: well, this is an experience you're sure to enjoy.

The festive mood surrounding Philippine Independence Day is hard to miss. Wander around the metropolis and you'll note that the streets are filled with tourists and locals; turn one corner and you'll see parades, turn another and you may be treated to performances set up on strategically placed stages.

As for Falner, the colors of the Philippine flag seem to be everywhere you look: the kids who live or study at the estate are mostly running around with their faces painted. If you wander down towards the Fair Grounds in the South District, there are a couple of booths set up offering anything from body paint and temporary tattoos to local delicacies. West District establishments The King's Rest and Liquidated also have special treats aligned with the theme of the day. There's also talk about the annual street party which will be held over at the Baywalk later this evening, and the younger initiates are abuzz over the yearly light show held over Manila Bay that showcase reenactments of all the major battles all the way up to the Darkest Vigil.

Independence Day is also not all that's being celebrated, because for Keepers of the Vigil and supernatural communities all over the world, today marks the second anniversary of Arcis Fortress City.

[ Rilea's decked the fountain in the driveway of the Falner Manor out in the colors of the Philippine Flag. This young man bears a striking resemblance to one of the statues of that fountain, and he's seated along the edge, smoking through his cigarettes and working through his own stash of booze.

Yeah. He's kind of got several crates of beer, and a lot of bottles of fine alcohol from all over the place.

If you're wondering why he looks like one of the statues, feel free to ask him when he's not chatting up whoever comes his way. If you already know the reason... welp. This is standard Blade King Behavior, isn't it? ]

South District.

The Fair Grounds has an on going Philippine Festival, with booths showcasing local fare, and impromptu programs set up for spectators.

Hunting has kept her in shape, and being Changing Breed has that pretty awesome benefit of looking like you're in your late thirties even if your birth certificate cites 1989 as your birth year.

[ It is late when Kasumi Aoi graces the Falner Estate with her presence. She had gone to Gisi first, of course, to make the rounds and see to her people after sending word to Kalika.

She finds herself a place in the back, content to light her pipe and view the performances at her leisure before she finally reaches out though the network of Wardens to call upon her son.

( Do you think Selene would be amenable to providing me copies of her take on these folk tunes? I find them refreshing. )

[ After walking a lot with Raura, they eventually part ways; the man has things to do, even if he acts like he could spend the rest of the night with her, and Ella doesn't want to be the reason he has to stay up during more days than the absolutely necessary.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole set up, Ella decides to pick a lonely bench somewhere in the back to sit and distractedly sip a tall glass of blood, letting the fresh night air chill everything a bit. Were she human, she would probably be sweating and enjoying the cold, but since that's not the case she can go straight to enjoying the moment. ]

[ This one is avoiding people, as usual. It's Independence Day, and everyone is out partying, and Yulia, being Yulia, finds the most empty location in the whole of Falner to have a smoke and be in peace.

The lake is the perfect location for it.

Almost no one is around to bother her. She would have stayed at Gisi, but there were people around, and Whisperers are nosy and would bother her about going down to the South District to party, or something.

No thank you.

[ If there's a lot of noise in the general direction of the Dragon Spires, that's because the Brotherhood and the Order have decided to lay out the picnic mats, crack the booze bottles open and idle the day away, watching the cherry blossoms.

This naturally means that Maes is around. You'll probably find him kicked back against a tree. If he isn't laughing with his Brothers and Sisters, he's sipping from a bottle of whatever strikes his fancy at the moment, smiling at... well. Everything. ]

[ Paolo's found that in his old age, scenery is key to enjoying the festivities, which is why he's here. A nice breeze, plenty of booze and food.

[ If you're moving around the Baywalk, you're going to see this guy in the same place all the time: sitting on the Coastal Wall, smoking from a Japanese pipe. He has a falcon on his shoulder, and appears to be enjoying the magical reenactments of the signature battles of the Darkest Vigil over the waters.

...You may also note that in his immediate vicinity, people committing petty crimes usually end up falling to the ground, convulsing until they're picked up by today's patrolmen. Is he doing that? Probably. ]
