Over the course of the last week, you'll have likely noticed the buzz and excitement that's been building all around Metro Manila -- if you've been around awhile, you know what time of the year it is. If you're new: well, this is an experience you're sure to enjoy.

The festive mood surrounding Philippine Independence Day is hard to miss. Wander around the metropolis and you'll note that the streets are filled with tourists and locals; turn one corner and you'll see parades, turn another and you may be treated to performances set up on strategically placed stages.

As for Falner, the colors of the Philippine flag seem to be everywhere you look: the kids who live or study at the estate are mostly running around with their faces painted. If you wander down towards the Fair Grounds in the South District, there are a couple of booths set up offering anything from body paint and temporary tattoos to local delicacies. West District establishments The King's Rest and Liquidated also have special treats aligned with the theme of the day. There's also talk about the annual street party which will be held over at the Baywalk later this evening, and the younger initiates are abuzz over the yearly light show held over Manila Bay that showcase reenactments of all the major battles all the way up to the Darkest Vigil.

Independence Day is also not all that's being celebrated, because for Keepers of the Vigil and supernatural communities all over the world, today marks the second anniversary of Arcis Fortress City.

[ Kaz actually chuckles when you mention husband. ]

I think he's at Baywalk. We decided that we'd both do patrols today, but not at the same time. He lost to me at rock-paper-scissors.

[ As he says that, Yuka reaches out to you, Aidan. Like her dads, she seems to really like you. ]

So he's stuck with morning patrols, I'm going tonight. Which is a good thing because classes start tomorrow and I don't think I can get any sleep.

Well, given the fact that your time is actually dictated by your family, and small children have close to no concept beyond themselves and you...

At least I'm used to the nightshift, so it isn't a problem. The only real issue is that I sometimes forget what day it is.

[ Yuka's content in her dad's arms for now, and Kaz just smiles as he looks at the signpost again. ]

The Kaiser's outdone herself this year.

That she has.

[ A little rueful now. ]

I suppose, though, that the fact that she can do things like this means that she is more relaxed.

It's something... What about you, Father? I know I haven't been around as much as I used to be, but how are you?

I have not been this content and relaxed in a while.

[ Saying that with genuine feeling. It's been crazy these past few years. ]

[ Have a rumble of satisfaction, Aidan. Kaz is happy you're relaxed, he still hates Amadeus for making you mad. That said... ]

I'm a teacher now. I never thought I'd be one, but... Ethics and the Code for the Hunter School freshmen.

[ It's not that he's worried that he can't do it, though. ]

Any tips? I mean, I know you teach the Special Cases and it's different, but... Y'know.

[ Making a thoughtful noise, matched with an equally thoughtful look. Trust in this dragon to be rather expressive. ]

Try to make the content of the class personal. It's hard to teach laws and a sense of morality when the other party feels like it does not effect them, or that there is nothing at stake.

[ He actually matches your thoughtful noise with his own, although much smaller, because you're huge. ]

That's true. I do want to impart on them that the laws are in place for a reason and all, but they're kids... I suppose I'll have to get to know them first.

[ First-time teaching jitters, Aidan, he has them. ]

[ Nods. ]

Do you have their profiles? It might help to be aware of some of the finer details on their records.

[ Yeah, he does. For all his jitters, he went to the faculty meetings and got all his stuff. ]

Been looking them through, drove Nico up a wall with the lesson plans. Records are only half their stories though, right?

That's right. It is a good place to start, but from there, you're on your own.

[ktotheatothez]

I hope I can pass muster...

[ He sighs and rests against Aidan, cradling the very chipper tiny in his arms. ]

[ Children are adorable. uwu ]

I think you will be fine, Brother. You are, after all, a caring person by nature, and you do try to your best as often as you can.

[ He ducks his head. Three years down the line and he still feels like the kid who had a dragon fly over his back yard and ask to see his grandmother. ]

[ He stands, hefting Yuka up to you, where the little girl places a kiss on the nearest scale. ]

We'd stay longer, but I think we should see the rest of the family [ read: everyone he can fit into the day before handing her off to Nico. ] before I go patrol tonight. See you at Mass tomorrow?
