I was, just a little. Much obliged. [ He also opens said can one handed, taking a small sip before turning his gaze on you. ]
Just Kaz will do, I may be an Inquisitor, but here I'm a counselor.
[ He'd call you Gray, but you called him 'sir'. Granted, it's what he'd do in your position. Formalities. ]
So, what brings you to my little nest, Mr. Valverde?
no subject
Well, you see.. [He pauses abruptly when he feels an uncomfortable lump in his throat, and he's swallowing hard as Temo's growing exasperation at him came clear through their bond.
{Oh, for Elaine's sake, Gray! Just say it!}
I will. I will. Don't rush me, okay?
He heard a mental sigh from his dragon before he's speaking again]
Actually, sir. I came here because of a case I'd like to help out with... [And he's mentally kicking himself at how blunt and straightforward that must have sounded.] In hindsight, I should have gone straight to Inquisitor Del Vega with this request, but I thought it best that I bring it up with you first... Especially since the case concerns Inquisitor Shinta's ward...
[From where he sat, Temo gave a concurring nod at his person's words.]
no subject
Interesting. So, what exactly about Lyall's case interests you?
[ Genuine curiosity, and a little protectiveness coloring that statement. ]
no subject
[Have a sigh from him.]
But it's the fact that she's still a little girl on top of being a Changeling that got my attention.
[As it did everyone else. He remembered how fast word had spread after the Blade King brought her to Falner months ago. Plus, it wasn't hard to notice how she kept trailing after him wherever he went ever since.
All this had hit close to home for him, too. He'd seen children who were victims of abuse before. And he knew the kind of durance Ogres endured in Arcadia. Lyall's case was a horrific blend of the two that has consistently troubled him for months.]
Rolling Int+Composure to recall Gray's file 5, 3, 4, 4, 6, 3, 8, 8, 0(7), 0(7), 0(7) = 6 successes
A Changeling's son, bud... You get why he wants to help, right?
I do. All the same, I'm going to ask.]
And she reminds you of a great many things, doesn't she? One thing though, Gray...
[ He takes a long swig of his drink and leans forward, propped up with his elbows on his knees. ]
While Lyall is attending Balamb, she isn't exactly a Netsach operative, and you aren't exactly an operative fully equipped to handle her case.
[ And that's not a dig at you being seventh circle. It's just that yeah, you can ask him about it, but the call isn't totally his to make. ]
You've told me the what, now I'd like to ask why. Why Lyall?
no subject
I... I just can't help but want to help her out in some way, sir.
[A sigh.]
A girl like her shouldn't have suffered what she was put through. She should have been left to live her life with family and friends. And to be denied that at a young age... It's just so wrong.
[He's shaking his head at that. Everything about a Changeling's durance was wrong, no matter how one sees it. They were all stolen from their lives by beings who only saw them as toys, and broke them time and again simply for their amusement.]
I guess I just want to see that she'll heal from what her Keepers did to her. It's already difficult as it is for older Changelings to cope with their own demons.
[Hell, his mother - who had always been a strong woman in his life - had moments where her time in Arcadia came back to haunt her.]
no subject
Roxas quips, and a low rumble of approval from Oswald as well. ]
Your heart's in the right place, Gray. But then, there's a lot that's changed when it comes to the Fae. She'll heal, given enough time and care - which she will undoubtedly get - but I think that for now, it's best that you observe her progress.
[ He'll lean back then, drink a little more and fish out the tin of cigarettes out of the jacket draped on his chair. ]
My professional opinion is, however, that Lyall could always use a few more friends.
[ Lighting up now and peering at you. ]
no subject
At your other statement:]
On that, sir, I agree. Having more friends would be good for her... [A beat as he gazes back at you, then realizing what else you might have meant.] How is she, now, around other people? Besides Inquisitors Shinta and LaRue. And yourself and the rest of the War Hounds, of course.
no subject
Hm. Well, she regards The Hounds with the same respect as she affords her guardians. She also seems to like a number of people. I have only ever seen her react adversely to one person so far, and he is the person I'd least expect...
[ He chuckles then, because he never expected Lyall to not like Kaien, of all people. Although... ]
Gray, I have an assignment for you.
no subject
He wonders who it could be. But he's perking up on hearing the word "assignment"]
Yes, sir?
no subject
[ Notice the careful wording, Gray. ]
Personally, I'd love to see her play more.
no subject
Understood, sir. I'll keep all that in mind.
no subject
[ He looks very satisfied with himself. ]
Now enough about Lyall... How are you and the Minokawa settling in?
no subject
[Relaxing a little more, now, as he takes another sip of his drink.]
Everyone's doing fine with their divisions, and we've more or less worked out our schedule as a blade.
[A thoughtful look there.]
Of course, there's some stuff the others will want to sort out on their own time. But at least there's less for us to worry about now that we're Seventh Circle.
[Like getting terrorized in a training session by your Russian blademate.]
no subject
Personal stuff, I assume?
no subject
[There's a sigh at that, as his own personal matters came to mind.]
no subject
Qué tienes en mente?
[ He asks with a small smile. ]
no subject
No mucho, señor. Estaba pensando en mi Papa...
[Staring down at his drink as he continues in English:]
... And how bad things still are between us.
no subject
[ He is, unfortunately, no stranger to that look on your face. After all, it had taken the longest time for things to be okay between him and his mom. ]
Do you want to talk about it?
