memory recall re: what she's heard about brigade: int (1) + comp (4) = 4,4,9,7,2 [1 success]
That was a Sunday some months ago, and she had been sitting by the stairs with Mitsuru on her lap, quietly observing the two men as they moved around each other. ]
Why... [ that's murmured softly as she turns to face the other girl properly. ] Why is your Uncle never home?
no subject
[ Saying it like it's no big deal, and mostly because it's difficult to think about sometimes? She misses Uncle Brig a lot, but she gets why the Pilgrimage is important. Uncle An'yu and Uncle Kaien sat her down and explained it one time. ]
no subject
Forgive her, Kitty. Things like this are a little new to her. She will readily confess as well that she is nowhere near as smart as you. ]
Um, [ this is going to sound really awkward. ] Why is he trying to become human?
[ It is clear in her tone that she did not thing supernaturals could do that. ]
no subject
[ She doesn't understand all of it, of course, but she doesn't have to? It seems to matter a lot to Uncle Brig. ]
no subject
Maybe she will ask Rin. He seems exceptionally smart. He is also a mage.
Offering what she hopes is a smile now. ]
Your Uncle seems like a very noble man to wish to help his kind in such a way.
[ And then, softer: ] I hope he comes home to you soon.
[ ( Because promises like that should be kept. )
There is an ache in her chest again and she glances up briefly to where her King is before she ducks her head again. ]
no subject
[ Oh, oh, oh. ]
So what are you going to ask Uncle Hikaru?
no subject
Blinking at that question though... ]
I... [ the hesitation is clear on her face. When she speaks again, her voice is much softer than before. ] It is about my... mother.
[ It sounds so foreign on her lips, especially when the face she tries to conjure up refuses to come. All she remembers is a voice and words and the sense of a promise that she would not be alone before night fell. ]
no subject
[ Genuinely curious, especially since she can't help but notice the way Lyall looks right now. ]
no subject
You've been so nice though so... ]
I do not remember much of her. [ Looking down at her hands now. ] I do not even know if the voice I sometimes dream about belongs to a woman I can call my mother.
[ It is always the same: a hand to her cheek, a promise. The rest she remembers is the sound and smell of rain. ]
no subject
You should ask him. I'm sure Uncle Hikaru knows something.
[ He's really, really smart! ]
no subject
Perhaps... later.
[ She's barely realized that she's whispering that. ]
no subject
[ Their other classmates were talking to each other about some interesting thing or another. ]
no subject
She can't help but sink into her seat at that. ]
It is... alright. [ UM. ] It would be good to let the others speak first.
no subject
[ Just putting that out there. Again. ]
no subject
But I am... not sure if I am ready to hear the answer.
[ She does glance her King's way at that, lips pressed together nervously. ]
Nor am I sure if it still matters.
[ She may not be as smart as most, but she knows that the world has changed in a great big way. ]
no subject
Well, since Kitty thinks it's important: ]
How about I ask something first, and then you can ask your question!
no subject
...I would like that.
[ Perhaps it will make this not as... difficult. ]
no subject
[ And with that, she's raising her hand. Your King, of course, notices immediately.
"Go ahead, Kitty. Ask away." ]
I'd like to know about about my Promethean ancestor!
[ ...Suffice to say, true to Hikaru Shinta's nature, he has an entire, interesting story to tell. Kitty is, no doubt, thrilled by this, and even more thrilled by the fact that when more questions from her follow, Uncle Hikaru is only too content with indulging her. ]
Thanks so much. I'm going to tell mom all about this.
[ Now: back to you, Lyall. ]
That was really cool!
no subject
She did not think you would ask right away. ._______.
Nevertheless, she listens in, because it seems the right thing to do for her newfound friend(?) and because she wants to hear the story from her King as well.
When it is all over and done with though, she's back to worrying at the cuffs of her uniform jacket as she nods wordlessly and shyly at Kitty. She does not know why the information would be considered a level of temperature though, but it seems like a positive thing??? ]
no subject
Watching you for a bit, and then gently nudging.
You promised! ]
no subject
O...okay then. She did say that she would.
She's opening and closing her mouth a few times before she tentatively raises her hand.
( Forgive her, sire, if she looks as though she's just been put in front of a firing squad. ) ]
no subject
What is it, Lyall?
[ She really doesn't have anything to be afraid of. ]
no subject
Still. She promised. ]
I remember... a voice. [ She swallows and ducks her gaze. ] From before.
[ This is... difficult. ]
I dream of it sometimes. I know it belongs to a woman. [ A breath. It is alright. Everyone else was given the opportunity to ask. ] I wonder if she was my... mother.
no subject
She was.
[ Saying that a little quietly, although the smile has not dimmed too much. ]
What would you like to know?
no subject
Why... why did she not come back? [ Because there was a promise. She is sure of it. ] For me.
