[ You'll find this one sitting on the porch smoking through a cigarette when you come around. Lyall's tucked in bed, poor thing fell asleep somewhere and has been out like a light since.

Don't... ask for the details, please. It was a little bit mortifying to come home and realize that your daughter the tiny was nowhere to be found. ]

[ Well then.

There's that familiar crooked edge to your boy's smile as he's reaching up to hold your face, and ghost his fingers through your hair. ]

I will hold you to that, good sir.

[ He makes good on his word, but then you know him -- he usually does, and making you feel good when he has his hands/mouth/body on you is something he enjoys very much.

It's an interesting exercise, this whole business of keeping quiet as he pleasures you i the confines of the bedroom you share; it's all murmured words and quiet laughter, because there's a sleeping kid to consider, a hallway down.

He's curling around you when you're both done, the scent of you all over his skin and his all over yours, when the thought comes to him again: you, him, like this, for as long as he still has breath.

That's a sigh now as he presses his lips to your shoulder. ]

[ And there's a slight arch from your boy and a breathless chuckle at that before he's reaching around, catching you by the nape of your neck, and pulling himself in for a slow, lazy kiss. ]

I love the way that you spoil me.

[ And he also loves your impeccable timing. ]

[ Smiling into that and following it up with the way he strokes your cheek. ]

It's easy [ a beat, ] when you don't put me through the ringer.

[ Because he had to qualify okay. You are both at a much better place now than you were six months ago, and it's nice to be able to rib you like this when he can. ]

[ Laughing, and nipping a bit at your mouth before kissing you again. ]

I'm sorry, I love you very much, I'll try not to do that again?

[ Please forgive him. ]

[ Doesn't he always? He's weak against you, this is kind of face.

He'll kiss you back now -- and promptly indulge in rolling over you so he can cover you with his body. No more extra rounds tonight though; you promised him a talk.

He'll break away from that kiss after a while, brace his forearms on either side of your head and peer at you as he lets the fingers of one hand play with your hair. ]

[ ...Yeah, that was really, really nice.

While you're doing that, he's letting his hands wander idly over your face and the rest of your body. ]

Kasumi was the one I went to see earlier.

[ You're here, you're close at hand. He feels safe enough and calm enough to talk to you now. ]

[ There's the slow look of '...oh', but he leans in and nuzzles your chin. It's your mom and she'll always intimidate the hell out of him ( because he really does respect her so much, ) but he's really glad that you get to spend time with her when you can. ]

You guys catch up?

Mm. She helped me sort my feelings about Lyall out a little more.

[ Only too glad, of course, to let you lavish affection on him. His tone his pensive, and he doesn't look sad, at least not the way he had earlier that day when the topic had come up between the two of you. ]

I can't help but view her as family, you know? I'm beyond attached, and while it started as empathy... well.

[ He loves her. ]

[ Pressing a kiss to your jawline before he settles back and props himself up with one arm. The other is draped around your waist; his fingers gently caressing your skin.

He's looking down at the sheets beneath you both, a quiet look over his features.

There are things he could say: how he's watched you both, how he saw it coming from day one. Tala was a "happy accident", in a manner of speaking. Selene a continuation of that. Brianna was circumstances aligning because of time and place, but Lyall... ]

I don't blame you. She's got a knack for sneaking into people's hearts without meaning to.

[ Looking back at you now with a look in his eyes that tells you he feels the same. ]

She's a child. Children aren't hard to love.

[ Then, in a softer voice: ]

It only gets easier when you know, at least to some degree, why they are broken. What it must be like to be in their position.

[ He's not looking at you again. You've seen that particular kind of distance in your boy's gaze before. It always comes when he's remembering the less than pleasant aspects of his past. ]

[ Your name is on the very tip of his tongue as he watches you drift off to somewhere he can't reach. He's shifting closer at that, reaching out to skim his palm over the curve of your waist and lean his forehead gently against your temple.

No words from him just yet. Sometimes, there are things you aren't ready to share and he gets that the offer to open up to him has to be on your terms.

He is here though, waiting with open arms and a shoulder to rest your head. He always will, to the best of his abilities. ]

[ ...And because you're there (you always have been since the start) and because you don't press, he doesn't stray too far from you. You're too warm and too good for him to leave behind in favor of dark thoughts.

Smiling a bit, and wrapping his arms around your neck to draw you even closer to him. ]

I guess we'll have to keep working on it. We'll get through eventually, right?

[ If they kept trying, anyway. ]

[ Letting you do that now and cupping a hand to your cheek as he leans in to press his lips to yours. ]

We will.

[ It'll take time. Though it's true that the both of you can only do so much, because it really all falls to Lyall at the end, to figure things out, trying never hurts. And he will maintain that working at showing how much love and care is here for her when she's ready is always, always a good thing. ]

[ He'll let himself get lost in that kiss, and carry on with it right up until he has to break away and try not to yawn.

Oops. ]

We should probably go to bed.

[ The laughter and slight embarrassment is in his voice. ]

[ And he's already settling back down and curving his arm over your head in a gesture to offer you a place right up at his side. The smile that is on his face is the one he reserves just for you. ]

C'mere.

[ And he's obediently drawing himself right up against your body, sighing with clear contentment, and shutting his eyes.

A moment later, though: ]

I'll tell you more if more things come to mind?

[ He doesn't run away from you anymore, about anything. These days, if he drops a subject, it's just because he's actually feeling much better about the issue already, or there's nothing left to say. ]

[ What you'll get in response is the press of his lips to the top of your head and the way his arm tightens around you gently for a bit. ]

Okay, [ he'll turn towards you now, taking that with the kind of faith that comes after only one too many falls and recoveries. Things have been good, this subject is just difficult and whose solution has since been proven, won't come in one night.

Nuzzling in now, as is his fashion when you're both curled up together this way. ] Go to sleep, babe. It'll be better in the morning.
